TLDR CGF therapy may help hair regrowth and improve scars in DLE patients.
A 36-year-old female with scarring alopecia secondary to discoid lupus erythematosus (DLE) experienced partial hair regrowth after receiving intralesional injections of concentrated growth factor (CGF) therapy. Despite conventional treatments like corticosteroids and hydroxychloroquine, which alleviated erythema and pruritus but did not promote hair regrowth, CGF therapy led to significant hair regrowth within 3 months. CGF, an autologous plasma extract rich in growth factors such as PDGF, TGF-β1, and VEGF, demonstrated potential in modulating inflammatory responses, promoting angiogenesis, and regenerating skin and hair follicles. This case supports the anti-inflammatory and regenerative capabilities of CGF, suggesting its promise as a treatment for DLE-related alopecia, though further studies are needed to confirm its efficacy.
