TLDR Omega-6 and LDL cholesterol increase the risk of hair loss.
This Mendelian randomization study involving 136,016 participants found that higher levels of Omega-6 fatty acids and total cholesterol in LDL, medium LDL, and small LDL are significant risk factors for androgenetic alopecia (AGA), with odds ratios ranging from 1.54 to 1.62. Other lipid-related metabolites, such as serum HDL-C, total cholesterol in large LDL, and Omega-3 fatty acids, did not show reliable causal relationships with AGA. The bidirectional approach confirmed that AGA does not significantly affect the selected lipid-related metabolites, ensuring the robustness of the findings.
