TLDR Higher caspase-1 levels found in balding scalps; reducing it may help treat hair loss.
The study found that caspase-1, a protein involved in inflammation, is expressed at higher levels in the scalp of individuals with androgenetic alopecia (AGA) compared to those without AGA. Finasteride treatment resulted in less expression of caspase-1. The findings suggest that endocrine-immune interactions play a crucial role in scalp tissue and that targeting caspase-1 may be a potential therapeutic approach for AGA.
