This study assessed the cardiometabolic profile of young women with hypoprolactinemia, involving 67 participants divided into three groups. Women with low prolactin levels (group A, n = 16) exhibited higher levels of 2-hour postchallenge glucose, glycated hemoglobin, triglycerides, uric acid, hsCRP, and fibrinogen, along with lower HDL-cholesterol, total testosterone, and free androgen index, indicating reduced insulin sensitivity compared to those with normal prolactin levels. No significant differences were found between the normal prolactin groups (B and C). Reducing the cabergoline dose in group A normalized prolactin levels and reversed these laboratory disturbances. The study suggested that hypoprolactinemia in reproductive-age women might increase cardiometabolic risk.
