TLDR Using a hot iron on wet hair can cause dry, brittle hair with air bubbles inside.
The document reported a case of a 22-year-old female with bubble hair, an acquired hair shaft abnormality characterized by air-filled spaces within the hair shaft due to thermal injury from using a hot iron on wet hair. The patient presented with dry, brittle hair, and hair microscopy confirmed the diagnosis. Bubble hair results from excessive heat causing water in the hair to vaporize, creating bubbles that weaken the hair. Other hair shaft abnormalities like trichorrhexis nodosa and trichoptilosis were also observed. The condition can be prevented by avoiding excessive heat and chemicals on hair and treating it by cutting off damaged hair.
