TLDR Biotin supports cell growth and DNA synthesis in Angora goat hair follicles.
The study investigated the effect of biotin on cell proliferation and DNA synthesis in cultured secondary hair follicles of the Angora goat. It was known that biotin deficiency in mammals led to skin issues and hair loss. The research aimed to explore how biotin deficiency and adequacy influenced cell division and DNA synthesis, using [methyl-3H]thymidine incorporation as a measure. Previous findings suggested that biotin deficiency reduced the viability of wool hair follicles in vitro, potentially affecting cell division and differentiation.
