TLDR The document concludes that the understanding of scar formation is incomplete and current prevention and treatment for hypertrophic scars and keloids are not fully effective.
The document reviewed the biology, prevention, and treatment strategies for hypertrophic scars and keloids, which are fibroproliferative disorders resulting from deep skin injuries. Despite numerous studies, the mechanisms of scar formation are not fully understood, and existing prophylactic and treatment options are not entirely satisfactory. These types of scars not only cause cosmetic concerns but also lead to functional issues like contractures and discomfort such as itching, significantly impacting the quality of life of affected individuals. The review covered both classical and recent insights into wound healing related to these conditions.
