TLDR CD2 might be a new treatment target for patchy alopecia areata.
The study analyzed gene expression profiles from 22 patients with patchy-type alopecia areata (AAP) and 36 normal controls, identifying 185 differentially expressed genes (DEGs), with 45 up-regulated and 140 down-regulated. Up-regulated genes were linked to immune response and chemokine signaling, while down-regulated genes were associated with keratin and intermediate filaments. The protein-protein interaction network highlighted CD2 as a key hub gene, suggesting it could be a new therapeutic target for AAP. Further research was recommended to explore CD2's potential in treating alopecia areata.
