TLDR These temporary hair dyes may be harmful to human health.
The study assessed the bio-safety of three temporary hair dyes: Fuchsin Basic (FB), Victoria Blue B (VBB), and Basic Red 2 (BR2), revealing potential health risks due to their cytotoxic effects on human red blood cells and NIH/3T3 cell lines. BR2 showed the highest percutaneous absorption and DNA binding affinity, indicating significant interaction with DNA, while VBB had the highest hemolytic effect on red blood cells. All dyes exhibited strong interactions with bovine serum albumin (BSA) and DNA, with FB being the most cytotoxic. The study concluded that these dyes posed potential health risks, and users should be aware of their toxic effects.
