TLDR Hair dye can damage dog hair and cause health issues.
This study used scanning electron microscopy to evaluate the effects of intensive hair dye usage on the cuticle cells of the hair shaft and the epidermis in mixed-breed dogs. The investigation was prompted by limited and conflicting information on the impact of hair dye products. The study found that hair dye constituents could penetrate deeply into the hair roots and were associated with skin allergies, nervousness, and toxicity. The research aimed to provide reliable measurements for the safety of hair dye products, focusing on the preservation of the physical integrity of hair fibers.
