TLDR Men who go bald before 30 may have a higher risk of heart disease.
This study reviewed 24 articles from 1954 to 1999 to assess the link between baldness and coronary artery disease from a dermatologic perspective. It found that 9 out of 15 relevant articles suggested a relationship, particularly in younger men with severe early-onset androgenetic alopecia. However, inconsistencies in defining baldness and androgenetic alopecia complicated the conclusions. The study suggested that men who develop baldness before age 30 might have a higher risk for coronary artery disease, potentially due to elevated dihydrotestosterone-testosterone ratios. It recommended including baldness as a secondary hypothesis in large epidemiological studies, with dermatologic expertise for accurate evaluation.
