TLDR Bald men may have a higher risk of heart disease, but baldness doesn't necessarily mean more severe heart disease.
In 2020, a cross-sectional study involving 105 Iranian men found a significant link between baldness and the risk of Coronary Artery Disease (CAD). The study showed that the overall frequency of CAD was higher in bald men (88.9%) compared to those without baldness (72.5%). Additionally, those with a family history of baldness had a higher prevalence of CAD (93.3% vs. 76.0%). However, the severity of CAD was not significantly associated with baldness. The study suggested that baldness could predict an increased likelihood of CAD by three times. Despite these findings, the exact cause of CAD in bald patients remained unclear. The study also proposed that the association between androgenic alopecia and CAD might be due to inflammatory processes and increased sensitivity to androgens.
