TLDR Avicennia marina heartwood extract shows strong antioxidant potential for health benefits.
The study evaluated the antioxidant activity of Avicennia marina heartwood extract, sourced from Bagan Kuala, using ethanol-based maceration and the DPPH assay. The extract contained alkaloids, tannins, saponins, triterpenoids, and flavonoids, demonstrating strong antioxidant activity with an IC50 value of 61.50 µg/mL. The findings suggest that Avicennia marina heartwood has promising potential as a natural source for combating degenerative diseases induced by Reactive Oxidative Stress (ROS) and could be developed into oral supplements or topical preparations, offering economic benefits.
