TLDR Polydeoxyribonucleotide (PDRN) may help lighten skin and treat hyperpigmentation.
The study from 2016 explored the potential skin whitening effects of Polydeoxyribonucleotide (PDRN), a substance typically used for wound healing. In vitro tests on human and mouse cells showed that PDRN reduced melanin production, tyrosinase activity, and the expression of proteins related to melanogenesis. It also increased the phosphorylation of proteins that suppress melanogenesis. Clinically, six female patients with facial hyperpigmentation received intradermal PDRN injections and showed significant improvements after three treatments. The study concluded that PDRN has anti-melanogenesis properties and could be an effective treatment for hyperpigmentation in cosmetic dermatology.
