TLDR PRP shows promise for scarring alopecia but needs more research before replacing current treatments.
This systematic review evaluates the anti-inflammatory potential of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in treating scarring alopecia, a challenging condition due to irreversible hair follicle damage. The review identified 11 studies on PRP treatment outcomes, which generally showed positive effects in slowing disease progression and reducing inflammation without adverse effects. However, the evidence is limited to case reports, and PRP's clinical benefits in scarring alopecia remain unproven. Therefore, while PRP shows promise, immunomodulatory therapies should continue as the primary treatment for scarring alopecia until more comprehensive research is conducted.
