The study investigated the relationship between androgen receptor gene polymorphism and prostate zonal volumes in 50 Chinese men and 50 Australian men. It found that Australian men had larger central and total prostate volumes compared to Chinese men, even after adjusting for body size differences. However, the length of CAG repeats in the androgen receptor gene was similar between the two groups and showed no correlation with prostate volume or hormone levels. DHT concentration was lower in Chinese men, but this difference was not significant after adjusting for prostate size. The study concluded that CAG repeat polymorphism and central-prostate zone volume were not reliable markers of long-term androgen sensitivity, highlighting the need for a suitable marker for clinical and epidemiologic research.
