TLDR A 5-year-old boy with alopecia totalis had temporary hair regrowth with treatment but relapsed, highlighting the need for thorough investigation and holistic care.
A 5-year-old boy diagnosed with alopecia totalis (AT) experienced complete hair loss, including eyebrows and eyelashes. Initial treatment with Prosential showed slight hair regrowth after two months, but the patient relapsed after four months. Laboratory tests were mostly normal except for hypereosinophilia. The patient was treated with Prosential, minoxidil 2%, and clobetasol propionate 0.05%. The study emphasizes the importance of a detailed etiological investigation and a holistic approach, including psychosocial support, in managing AT, as hair loss significantly impacts children's self-esteem.
