TLDR Photobiomodulation may help heal diabetic wounds, but more research is needed.
This review examines the interaction between the AKT and β-catenin signaling pathways in diabetic wound healing and the potential therapeutic role of photobiomodulation (PBM). The PI3K/AKT and Wnt/β-catenin pathways are essential for cell proliferation, differentiation, and survival, but high glucose levels in diabetes impair these pathways, leading to chronic wounds. PBM, which uses red and near-infrared light, may enhance wound healing by affecting cellular processes like cytokine release and collagen production. However, the mechanisms of PBM are not fully understood, and further research is needed to optimize its use in treating diabetic wounds. Understanding these molecular interactions could lead to more effective treatments for chronic diabetic wounds.
