TLDR Chinese women's hair gets thinner and grayer with age, and scalp conditions change, especially after 40.
The 2017 study involving 1343 Han Chinese women aged 20 to 65 found that hair density decreased by 18% from women in their 20s to those in their 60s, and hair diameter peaked in their mid-40s, then decreased. Hair lightness and gray-hair ratio increased with age. Scalp conditions, such as water content, sebum secretion, and dandruff severity, varied with age, with significant changes noticeable from the 40s. The number of women suffering from scalp erythema increased with age. The study also noted regional differences in hair and scalp characteristics across six cities in China, suggesting environmental factors' influence. However, the exact causes related to regional effects couldn't be defined due to limitations.
