    Image of study
TLDR Hair loss and metabolic syndrome are linked, sharing causes and treatment options.
Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) is the most common form of hair loss, characterized by the miniaturization of scalp hair follicles and shortened hair growth phases. Recent research indicates a significant link between AGA and metabolic syndrome (MetS), which is marked by abdominal obesity, impaired glucose metabolism, hypertension, and dyslipidemia. This article reviews the epidemiological connection between AGA and MetS, investigates the shared mechanisms, and evaluates both current and potential treatment strategies.
