TLDR Balding men have harder scalps.
The study found that male subjects with androgenetic alopecia (AGA) had significantly higher scalp hardness at the frontal and vertex scalp compared to non-AGA subjects. The severity of AGA was also positively correlated with increased scalp hardness. However, there was no significant difference in scalp hardness between female AGA and non-AGA subjects. The study suggests that increased scalp hardness may be associated with higher risk and increased severity of AGA in male subjects.
