TLDR A new lotion with halobetasol and tazarotene successfully treats acne keloidalis nuchae.
Acne keloidalis nuchae (AKN), a chronic inflammatory condition affecting mainly African-American men, has been successfully treated for the first time with a combination of halobetasol 0.01% and tazarotene 0.045% lotion. This condition, characterized by follicular papules, pustules, plaques, and potential keloid-like scarring, typically relies on treatments like antibiotics and steroids. However, this case demonstrates the efficacy of the fixed combination of a topical steroid and a topical retinoid, despite the lack of prior published data supporting this approach for AKN.
