Association of ACE2, Insulin Resistance, and Other Parameters in Obese Polycystic Ovary Syndrome Patients Infected with COVID-19

    TLDR PCOS women with COVID-19 have higher cardiometabolic risks.
    This study examined the relationship between angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), insulin resistance, and other parameters in 120 women, including 80 with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and COVID-19, and 40 controls. The findings revealed that PCOS women had higher BMI, fasting blood sugar (FBS), lipid profiles (except HDL), D-dimer, waist/hip ratio, testosterone, insulin, and HOMA-IR, indicating a higher risk for cardiovascular diseases. Conversely, GST activity and ACE2 levels were lower in PCOS patients. The study suggests a probable relationship between ACE2 and HOMA-IR in PCOS patients with COVID-19, highlighting the increased cardiometabolic risks in this group.
