TLDR Insulin resistance is common in PCOS patients and linked to obesity and increased cardiovascular risk.
The study investigated 83 polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) patients and found that insulin resistance (IR) was prevalent in 51.81% to 66.27% of them, with the prevalence rate varying based on the diagnostic method used. Obesity was significantly associated with a higher incidence of IR. There were also significant associations between IR and cardiovascular risk factors such as BMI, waist circumference, lipid accumulation product, dyslipidemia, and arterial hypertension. The study emphasized the importance of early detection of metabolic and cardiovascular risk factors in PCOS patients to improve their quality of life and reduce the risk of long-term complications.
