    The study investigated the effects of menopause on hair lipids and quality by comparing pre-menopausal and post-menopausal women, including those on hormone replacement therapy (HRT). It was found that post-menopausal hair had decreased levels of wax or cholesteryl esters and squalene, while cholesterol and ceramides increased. The study concluded that hair lipids originate from both hair follicles and sebum, and that menopause reduces sebum contribution, affecting hair condition.
