TLDR Testosterone undecanoate can reduce the negative effects of Finasteride on male reproductive health.
The study investigated the effects of a 5alpha-reductase inhibitor, Finasteride, and testosterone undecanoate (TU) on male rats' reproductive function. Thirty-two male rats were divided into four groups, receiving different treatments. Results showed that both Finasteride and TU reduced the weight of the testis and epididymis, with TU increasing prostate weight and Finasteride decreasing it. Finasteride alone or combined with TU reduced dihydrotestosterone (DHT) levels but increased testosterone levels. Both substances inhibited epididymal sperm count and reproductive function, though the effect was less significant when both were combined. The study concluded that high doses of Finasteride could suppress male reproductive function, but this effect could be counteracted by combining it with TU.
