TLDR The 3D-SeboSkin model effectively simulates Hidradenitis suppurativa and is useful for future research.
In 2019, a study developed a 3D-SeboSkin model to simulate Hidradenitis suppurativa/acne inversa (HS) using skin explants from HS patients co-cultured with SZ95 sebaceous gland cell cultures. The study involved 4 female patients with a median age of 42 years. The model preserved the epidermis structure better than skin specimens cultured alone and successfully reproduced the differential expression of HS biomarkers (S100A9, CK16, SERPINB3). The 3D-SeboSkin model was found to be reproducible and useful for future HS research, demonstrating the positive effects of combining HS skin explants with human sebocytes.

He Shou Wu (Fo Ti) extract was found to prolong the hair growth phase, inhibit 5-alpha-reductase (like finasteride), reduce androgen receptors, and increase growth factors, potentially outperforming minoxidil in recovering hair follicle size after DHT exposure. Two compounds, emodin and TSG, are identified as responsible for these effects and warrant further investigation.
