Proceedings of the First Medical Congress of Formosa - COMEF
January 2024
TLDR Dutasteride is more effective and better tolerated than finasteride for hair loss treatment.
The I Congresso Médico de Formosa covered a wide range of health topics, with a notable study comparing dutasteride and finasteride for treating androgenetic alopecia. Dutasteride, inhibiting both type 1 and type 2 5-alpha-reductase enzymes, showed superior hair growth results compared to finasteride, which only inhibits type 2. The study found dutasteride led to greater DHT reduction and increased testosterone levels, with similar adverse reaction rates for both drugs. Long-term use of dutasteride was associated with better tolerance and fewer adverse effects like erectile dysfunction and depression, highlighting its potential as a more effective hair loss treatment. The congress also addressed mental health, post-COVID syndrome, AI in diagnostics, cardiovascular risks, and the importance of integrating biopsychosocial aspects into medical care.
