mature cell changes directly into another mature cell type

Transdifferentiation is a biological process where one type of mature cell transforms into another type of mature cell without first reverting to a stem cell state. For example, a skin cell might change directly into a nerve cell. This process is significant in regenerative medicine and tissue engineering because it offers potential for repairing damaged tissues and organs.
