    GlossaryFluorescent Light

device that uses mercury vapor to produce visible light

A fluorescent light, also known as a fluorescent lamp or fluorescent tube, is a type of lighting device that uses electricity to excite mercury vapor. This process generates ultraviolet (UV) light, which then causes a phosphor coating inside the tube to glow, producing visible light. Fluorescent lights are more energy-efficient and have a longer lifespan compared to traditional incandescent bulbs.
