    GlossaryEndometriosis

condition where uterine-like tissue grows outside the uterus

Endometriosis is a medical condition where tissue similar to the lining inside the uterus, called the endometrium, starts to grow outside the uterus. This can cause pain, irregular bleeding, and infertility, as the misplaced tissue continues to act as it normally would—thickening, breaking down, and bleeding with each menstrual cycle, but having no way to exit the body.
