    GlossaryOophorectomy

surgical removal of one or both ovaries

Oophorectomy, also known as ovary removal surgery, is a medical procedure in which one or both of a woman's ovaries are surgically removed. This operation is often performed to treat conditions such as ovarian cancer, endometriosis, or ovarian cysts, and can also be part of a risk-reduction strategy for those with a high genetic risk of breast or ovarian cancer.
