    process of producing melanin in skin and hair cells

    Melanogenesis is the process by which the skin and hair produce melanin, the pigment responsible for their color. This process occurs in specialized cells called melanocytes and involves a series of biochemical reactions, primarily catalyzed by the enzyme tyrosinase. Melanogenesis is influenced by genetic factors, UV exposure, and hormonal changes, and plays a crucial role in protecting the skin from UV radiation.
