    GlossarySkin Structures

various parts making up the skin, including layers and glands

Skin structures, also known as dermal structures or skin components, refer to the various parts that make up the skin, the body's largest organ. These include the epidermis (outer layer), dermis (middle layer), and hypodermis (subcutaneous layer), as well as associated elements like hair follicles, sweat glands, sebaceous (oil) glands, blood vessels, and nerve endings. These structures work together to protect the body, regulate temperature, and provide sensory information.
