    GlossarySecondary Hyperparathyroidism

overactive parathyroid glands due to low blood calcium levels

Secondary Hyperparathyroidism (secondary HPT) is a condition where the parathyroid glands produce too much parathyroid hormone (PTH) in response to low calcium levels in the blood, often due to chronic kidney disease or vitamin D deficiency. This overproduction of PTH can lead to bone pain, fractures, and other complications as the body tries to maintain normal calcium levels by breaking down bone tissue.
