medical treatment replacing missing or deficient enzymes in patients

Enzyme Replacement Therapy (ERT) is a medical treatment used to replace deficient or absent enzymes in patients with certain genetic disorders, such as Gaucher disease or Fabry disease. By providing the specific enzyme that the patient's body lacks, ERT helps to reduce symptoms and prevent disease progression.
