TLDR Zinc supplements improve hair growth in camels and support growth and hair development in calves.
This study on 79 lactating Bactrian camels and their calves examined the effects of zinc supplementation on milk production, hump morphology, and hair development. Zinc supplementation did not significantly affect milk yield or composition, nor did it improve hump morphology. However, a dose of 2.00 g/camel/day significantly stimulated hair growth in lactating camels. In calves, doses of 0.50 g/camel/day and 0.75 g/camel/day significantly enhanced body weight gain and hair development, while a higher dose did not provide additional benefits. These findings suggest that specific zinc supplementation can improve hair growth in camels and support growth and hair development in calves, providing a basis for its use in camel husbandry.
