TLDR The new zinc peroxide hydrogel speeds up wound healing and tissue regeneration effectively.
The study introduces a zinc peroxide-mediated hydrogel (Zn-Gel) designed for endogenous tissue regeneration and wound healing, offering controlled and sustained zinc ion release for up to 14 days. Zn-Gel demonstrated excellent cytocompatibility and tissue compatibility, promoting cell proliferation, angiogenesis, hair follicle formation, and collagen deposition in both in vitro and in vivo studies. In mouse models, Zn-Gel accelerated wound healing, with the Zn2+-containing group showing superior results. The hydrogel's simple fabrication process and prolonged therapeutic effects suggest its promise for diverse biomedical applications, including wound management and tissue regeneration.
