TLDR Surgical debridement and targeted therapies can effectively heal chronic wounds in KID syndrome.
Keratitis-ichthyosis-deafness (KID) syndrome is a rare disorder with fewer than 100 cases worldwide, characterized by symptoms including alopecia and hyperkeratosis. This case report discusses a 35-year-old male with KID syndrome who had chronic lower-limb wounds resistant to conservative treatment. Initial outpatient care involved debridement and topical treatments, but due to minimal improvement, an inpatient surgical approach was adopted. This included excision of hyperkeratotic tissue and systemic and topical therapies, leading to gradual wound healing and improved skin condition. The report concludes that surgical debridement combined with targeted therapies can effectively manage chronic wounds in KID syndrome, emphasizing the need for multidisciplinary collaboration and individualized treatment plans.

Men with hair loss might have lichen planopilaris (LPP), which can mimic androgenetic alopecia, leading to misdiagnosis and ineffective treatment with finasteride or dutasteride. Proper diagnosis, including biopsies, is crucial to distinguish between androgenetic alopecia and conditions like LPP.

Hair loss is linked to DHT, with treatments like finasteride and minoxidil being common but not definitive. Economic interests influence research, and there is potential for new treatments like PP405 and RU58841.
