TLDR Skin debridement and antifungals successfully treated severe scalp infection without scarring.
A case study of a 5-year-old boy with kerion celsi, a severe form of tinea capitis, demonstrated that a combination of skin debridement and antifungal treatment was effective. The boy presented with alopecia and a large painful scalp abscess. After surgical debridement to remove the crust and application of terbinafine cream, along with systemic griseofulvin for 6 weeks, the treatment resulted in healing without scarring alopecia. This approach improved the prognosis compared to traditional antifungal treatments alone.
