TLDR Certain genes in fat tissue affect weight loss in women with PCOS.
This study examined the link between adipose tissue gene expression and weight changes in 55 overweight women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) undergoing lifestyle interventions. Significant weight loss was observed in the behavioral modification group compared to the control group. The expression of 40 genes was analyzed, with GSTM5 identified as the strongest predictor of weight loss, explaining 19% of the weight change. When combined with clinical variables like waist-hip ratio, GSTM5 and WHR together explained 31% of the variation in weight change. These findings suggest that specific adipose tissue genes, particularly GSTM5, can influence weight loss success in PCOS patients, highlighting the potential for personalized treatment approaches.
