TLDR Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinaemia can mimic multiple myeloma, so accurate diagnosis is crucial.
This case report discusses a 77-year-old man diagnosed with Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinaemia (WM), a rare lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma, which initially mimicked multiple myeloma. The patient presented with symptoms including epistaxis, hair loss, elevated serum creatinine, hypercalcaemia, and a reversal of the albumin-to-globulin ratio. The presence of an M band and elevated serum IgM levels led to the correct diagnosis of WM. The report emphasizes the importance of considering WM in differential diagnoses for similar symptoms and highlights the need for prompt recognition and comprehensive management. It calls for further research to better understand WM's pathogenesis and to develop targeted treatments.
