TLDR People with type 2 diabetes have lower vitamin E levels, especially older adults and females.
The study examined serum vitamin E levels in 94 Bangladeshi patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) and 30 healthy controls, finding that T2DM patients had significantly lower vitamin E levels (8.97 μg/mL) compared to healthy individuals (13.13 μg/mL). It also noted that among T2DM patients, males had higher vitamin E levels than females, and levels decreased with age. These results suggest a potential link between low vitamin E levels and T2DM, indicating that vitamin E supplementation could be beneficial for managing oxidative stress in T2DM patients. The study calls for further research due to its small sample size and lack of dietary data.
