TLDR Men with Type 2 Diabetes have lower DHT levels, which may affect fertility and lipid profiles.
The study investigated the relationship between serum dihydrotestosterone (DHT) levels, lipid parameters, and anthropometric measurements in male patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. Conducted at Teerthanker Mahaveer Medical College and Research Centre and Santosh Medical College, it included 210 participants (105 diabetics and 105 controls). Results showed that serum DHT levels were significantly lower in diabetics compared to healthy controls (230.66 ± 182.02 pg/ml vs 439.26 ± 257.87 pg/ml, p=0.001), with 90% of diabetics having subnormal DHT levels compared to 10% of controls. This suggests a strong association between Type 2 Diabetes and reduced DHT levels, potentially impacting male fertility and lipid profiles.

community Androgenetic alopecia is a skin disease: DHT-mediated skin disorders

Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) impacts various skin conditions, including Androgenetic alopecia and seborrheic dermatitis, by causing overactivity in sebaceous glands. Topical medications Tacrolimus and Clobetasol can reduce these inflammatory conditions, and treatments like RU58841, Minoxidil, and Finasteride may also be beneficial.

Finasteride can impact neurosteroids, potentially causing depression and other side effects in some users. Despite these concerns, many continue using it for hair loss, with some switching to topical applications to mitigate side effects.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.

The conversation discusses hair loss treatments, focusing on the use of topical minoxidil, microneedling, finasteride, and dutasteride, while debating the role of testosterone and DHT in hair loss. It also touches on the potential liver health impacts of these treatments and the genetic sensitivity of hair follicles to androgens.
