TLDR The Spanish version of the Hair Specific Skindex-29 scale is a reliable and valid way to measure the impact of hair loss on women's quality of life.
In 2018, a study validated the Spanish-language adaptation of the Hair Specific Skindex-29 (HSS29) scale, designed to assess the quality of life in women with female androgenetic alopecia (FAA). The study included 170 women with FAA and 30 controls, with a subgroup of 15 patients undergoing a test-retest. The Spanish version showed excellent sensitivity and specificity (ROC curve 0.98), high reliability (Cronbach's alpha 0.96), and maintained the original scale's three domains. The questionnaire effectively differentiated between women with alopecia and healthy controls, with the emotional dimension being the most affected by hair loss. The study confirmed the Spanish HSS29 as a reliable and valid tool for evaluating the impact of hair loss on quality of life in Spanish-speaking women, with younger patients being the most affected. The study was funded by Reig Jofre laboratories, with no conflicts of interest reported by the authors.
