TLDR The Spanish version of the Hair Specific Skindex-29 is a reliable tool for measuring quality of life in Spanish-speaking women with hair loss.
In 2018, a study involving 170 women with female androgenetic alopecia (FAA) and 30 control subjects validated the Spanish adaptation of the Hair Specific Skindex-29 (HSS29) scale, a tool for assessing the impact of alopecia on quality of life. The Spanish version showed excellent sensitivity and specificity with an area under the ROC curve of 0.98, high reliability with a Cronbach's alpha of 0.96, and strong test-retest reliability with an ICC over 0.9. The scale maintained its original three domains and demonstrated that alopecia most significantly affected the emotional domain, with this impact being significant even in women with mild alopecia and more profound in younger patients. The study concluded that the Spanish HSS29 is a reliable and valid instrument for evaluating quality of life in Spanish-speaking women with FAA.
