TLDR The Egyptian Arabic Skindex-16 is a reliable way to measure how skin diseases affect quality of life in Egyptian patients.
The study validated an Egyptian Arabic version of the Skindex-16, a questionnaire for assessing quality of life (QoL) in patients with skin diseases. It involved 500 dermatological patients and 500 healthy controls, showing high reliability (Cronbach's alpha = 0.95) and good validity. Quality of life was most affected in the emotional domain, with psoriasis, urticaria, acne, and atopic dermatitis patients reporting higher Skindex-16 scores, indicating greater QoL impairment, compared to those with vitiligo and alopecia areata. Factors such as educational level, social class, medication use, and family history were found to influence QoL. The study concluded that the Egyptian Arabic Skindex-16 is a valid and reliable tool for measuring the impact of skin diseases on QoL in Egyptian patients.
