TLDR Combination therapies work better than single treatments for atrophic acne scars.
This review article discusses the updated management of atrophic post-acne scars, which result from inflammation of hair follicles and sebaceous glands due to acne. The condition is influenced by factors such as androgen-induced sebum overproduction, altered keratinization, inflammation, bacterial colonization, immune response, environment, and genetics. Various treatments for post-acne scarring include chemical peels, dermabrasion, laser resurfacing, punch excision and elevation, fat transfer, autologous collagen implantation, cultured fibroblasts, trichloroacetic acid focal treatment, and skin microneedling. The conclusion emphasizes that combination therapies generally yield better results than single treatments for most types of atrophic acne scars.
