TLDR Ultrasound and laser technologies improve drug delivery through the skin by enhancing penetration and control.
Transdermal drug delivery (TDD) offers controlled release and reduced side effects but faces challenges in overcoming the skin barrier. Ultrasound-assisted delivery (sonophoresis) and laser-based TDD enhance drug penetration by disrupting the skin's structure and creating microchannels, respectively. Both methods effectively deliver various therapeutic agents, with ultrasound showing success in molecule transport and lasers providing precise control. Recent advancements include combining these technologies with other methods and integrating smart devices. Ongoing research aims to optimize parameters, reduce costs, and improve safety and therapeutic outcomes.
