Tufted Hair Folliculitis Developing in a Recalcitrant Lesion of Pemphigus Vulgaris

TLDR Scalp inflammation can cause multiple hairs to grow from one follicle.
A Japanese man with pemphigus vulgaris developed tufted hair folliculitis in a chronically erosive scalp plaque. Repeated intralesional corticosteroid injections improved the lesion, but multiple hairs emerged from single follicular openings. This case suggested that localized exudative inflammatory lesions on the scalp, regardless of their cause, could lead to tufted hair formation.
