TLDR Scalp inflammation can cause multiple hairs to grow from one follicle.
The document described a case of tufted hair folliculitis that developed in a chronically erosive plaque on the scalp of a Japanese man with pemphigus vulgaris. After repeated intralesional corticosteroid injections, the erosive lesion improved, resulting in multiple hairs emerging from single follicular openings. This case suggested that localized exudative inflammatory lesions in the scalp, regardless of their cause, could lead to tufted hair formation.
